The Design Files Open House

TDF open house

Most people know of my love for the design files. A truly unique design blog that continually inspires. My sister and I trekked off today into Windsor and found a perfect park out the front – the sign of a good day! Busy as expected, we walked in to the design files open house full of hope and expectation. At first look, I was very pleased with the styling and the furniture layout. However, upon closer inspection, I must say I was a little disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, I loved everything in the house and I loved the way it was all displayed. However, I did hope to see more new pieces from new designers rather than mostly the same as 2011. I suppose if it works, stick with it, but I had hoped the open house concept would continually evolve each year and continue to push boundaries. It was pleasing to see that the same designers themselves had evolved, but it seemed a little too much like last year all the same.

New things I loved:
- New artists on the walls (loved the neon resin frames too)
- Jardan’s new furniture
- Bonnie and Neil’s new prints
- Made by Mosey’s new feather garland
- The swing in the kids room – only the coolest of stylists put swings inside (haha!)

I still loved the house and I will still continue to go every year, I was just very surprised at the lack of difference from 2011. All in all, good job TDF, see you next year! xx

One Two Tree

So I’ll keep this one short and sweet. December is almost upon us which means it’s Christmas tree set up time. You wanna make sure you get your full month’s worth of tree so get cracking. To help you out and help the environment, I introduce you to one two tree. These guys take the fuss out of the big ordeal that the christmas tree can present. Easy to assemble, kind to trees, small enough to display on a table, easy to store for next year and not to mention it looks adorable. Gotta love that modern blonde wood – will work with all of your christmas decorations especially my favourites… neons and metallics. So get yourself sorted early and have a merry December! xx

LuckyBoySunday

Oh my goodness, isn’t this stuff just the cutest! I do love a brand that can offer big people just as much as little people! I love the fun colours, I adore the crazy shapes and I must have everything! LuckyBoySunday is their name. A brand of modern luxury knitted art toys and soft furnishings for the home, inspired by an artistic take on the world of children. Love Love Love xx

Nancy Bird.

Nancy Bird is a Melbourne based accessories label, focussing on quality materials and playful, thoughtful design. Much of the range has been hand printed by local Melbourne makers. All leathers are custom made in Italy in gorgeous seasonal colours. The collection has a distinctively Australian feel, using raw, earthy materials with influences from Africa, Japan and Central Europe. But especially influenced by being right here in Melbourne town. You can find nancybird at independent retailers throughout Australia and New Zealand. Love it! xx

Karen Morton.

Karen Morton is the very clever artist behind ‘Kaz.’ She creates beautiful pieces made from porcelain and resin – anything from plates and bowls to the cutest bangles. I love the colours of these and the different marble effects in some. It’s also very cool that every piece is completely individual and will never be the same as another. The summery colours give me another reason to get excited for December! xx

Me & Amber

Me and Amber. These 2 clever girls hand make a range of awesome products, from tea towels and cushions to greeting cards and artworks. They produce everything in australia because they believe in supporting local business. And my favourite part… they use recycled paper, sustainable and durable fabric and water-based ink to reduce their carbon footprint – love it!

Enoki

I am obsessed with lighting. And I am obsessed with Enoki. These lights are so beautiful. And you must check out the video on their website of how to assemble these cuties – so clever and so easy! If you want to modern up your house, but keep a minimalist look, these would be perfect because they’re neutral but still make a massive statement! xx

Kip & Co

Kip and Co. I saw these guys at the life in style trade event 2 weeks ago and fell in love. I love how they have mixed the bright modern prints with the velvet quilt covers – clever! A new quilt cover and a couple of cushions can change the look of a bedroom entirely – and a change is as good as a holiday. So if you’re a little bored with the decor of your bedroom or if you’re like me and eagerly awaiting summer, grab a bright and cheerful Kip & Co cover and feel the positive energy just flow through! xx

Fenton & Fenton

Fenton & Fenton (High St, Armadale) is one of the coolest homewares and furniture stores in Melbourne. Their rare pieces are so unique and beautiful and can turn a space from ordinary to magical. Make sure you check out their website, the artwork on each page and the gallery section are so inspiring when it comes to home styling.

Donna Wilson.

Normally I try to only feature Australian designers, even Melbourne made when I can, but sometimes you just can’t avoid a good International brand. Take London designer Donna Wilson. I know I’ve featured her cushions and throw rugs frequently, but I thought I should do a small post about her cute tablewares. So adorable!
